Japanese investment firm Metaplanet is taking bold steps to solidify its position in Asia’s digital asset market. The company has announced plans to raise ¥9.5 billion ($62 million) through the issuance of Moving Strike Stock Acquisition Rights. The funds will be directed to the EVO FUND. Inspired by MicroStrategy, this strategy allows Metaplanet to grow its Bitcoin ($BTC) reserves without significantly diluting shareholder value.

Bitcoin as a Hedge Against Inflation

Metaplanet’s CEO, Simon Gerovich, highlighted the strategic benefits of using Bitcoin to hedge against inflation and the weakening yen. With Bitcoin prices hitting a record $99,645 on November 22, 2024, the firm sees the asset as crucial to its financial stability.

Profitable Investment in Bitcoin

Since May 2024, Metaplanet has invested $75.3 million to acquire 1,142 BTC at an average price of $65,972 per coin. The current value of these holdings stands at $111.29 million. This represents a 47.68% profit, demonstrating the effectiveness of Metaplanet’s investment strategy.

Plans for Future Bitcoin Purchases

Metaplanet plans to allocate ¥9,167 million from the fundraise to purchase more Bitcoin between December 2024 and June 2025. Additionally, ¥340 million will be set aside for working capital to support operations until December 2025.

Vision for Asia’s Bitcoin Economy

This approach aligns with Metaplanet’s goal of becoming Asia’s first Bitcoin Treasury Company. By increasing its Bitcoin reserves, the company aims to capitalize on Bitcoin’s potential growth and mitigate risks linked to fiat currency depreciation.

Metaplanet’s Growing Influence in the Digital Asset Market

Metaplanet has established itself as a significant player in the global Bitcoin market. It ranks 15th among public companies with the largest Bitcoin holdings. The company’s strategy of integrating digital assets into its long-term financial plans sets a strong example for others in Asia.
