Ethereum’s exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have captured more investor attention than their Bitcoin counterparts, following pivotal developments in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. Between Nov. 22 and Nov. 27, spot Ether ETFs recorded $224.9 million in net inflows, dwarfing the $35.2 million seen by spot Bitcoin ETFs, according to data from Farside Investors. This shift marks a significant moment for Ethereum, buoyed by a nearly 8% price surge over the past week, bringing Ether (ETH) to $3,590.

Tornado Cash Court Victory Spurs Ethereum Growth

Ethereum’s momentum has been linked to the recent U.S. court decision favoring the Ethereum-based privacy mixer, Tornado Cash. Markus Thielen, founder of 10x Research, noted that this legal win reinforces Ethereum’s dominance in the DeFi ecosystem. He mentioned, “This underperformance was once explained before the U.S. Presidential election, but with hopes for a more favorable regulatory climate, it now appears to be a potential opportunity.”

Reports that crypto advocate and former SEC commissioner Paul Atkins may replace current SEC Chair Gary Gensler have further fueled optimism for a more crypto-friendly regulatory framework. This prospect aligns with rising investor confidence in Ethereum as a critical DeFi infrastructure.

ETH Outpaces BTC in Performance Metrics

While Bitcoin (BTC) experienced a slight 2% decline to $96,780 during the same period, Ethereum gained 7.7%, boosting the ETH to BTC price ratio to 0.037 BTC. Analysts highlight Ethereum’s role as a “catch-up trade” in the current bull cycle, as it lags behind both Bitcoin and Solana (SOL).

Despite the inflow disparity, Bitcoin ETFs have still achieved a record-breaking month, accumulating over $6.2 billion in November. However, Ether’s recent performance has shifted attention, potentially marking the first week where U.S. Ether funds have surpassed Bitcoin ETFs in net inflows.

Leveraged Demand for Ether ETFs Soars

K33 Research has reported a 160% increase in leveraged spot Ether ETF demand since Nov. 28. The growing interest underscores Ethereum’s potential to dominate investor portfolios as its DeFi ecosystem matures. Additionally, Ethereum’s network activity has been bolstered by the expansion of DeFi protocols, indicating long-term strength.

DeFi Renaissance on the Horizon?

Thielen suggested that Ethereum’s growth could signify a broader DeFi revival under a new U.S. administration. “This indicates a potential DeFi renaissance under a Trump presidency,” he remarked, citing the involvement of President-Elect Donald Trump and his sons in the DeFi protocol World Liberty Financial.

Final Thoughts

As Ethereum solidifies its position in the ETF market and DeFi ecosystem, investor confidence appears to be growing. With favorable regulatory shifts and robust network performance, Ether ETFs are poised to maintain their upward trajectory, potentially setting new records in the near future.
