According to a recent report by crypto research firm Messari, Solana’s application revenues saw a dramatic 213% increase in the fourth quarter of 2024, largely driven by speculation in the memecoin market. In Q4 2024, cumulative application revenues on the Solana network grew from $268 million in Q3 to $840 million. November marked the peak of this surge, reaching $367 million in revenues, Messari reported. The major contributing factor behind these gains was increased trading activity in memecoins, which led Solana’s decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem throughout 2024.

Among the standout platforms, memecoin launchpad Pump.fun recorded $235 million in revenues for Q4, a 242% quarter-over-quarter increase. Following it were DeFi trading terminal Photon and decentralized exchange (DEX) Raydium, generating Q4 revenues of $140 million and $74 million, respectively, both experiencing growth of more than 250% quarter-over-quarter. Messari noted, “These applications are directly related to the increase in speculation on meme coins and the rise in AI-related coin launches during this quarter.” Jito, a blockbuilder and the highest-grossing application not related to memecoin trading, ranked 10th with around $21 million in revenues, benefiting from increased trading activity. In addition, the average daily DEX volume grew by 150%, reaching $3.3 billion in Q4.

Memecoins and AI Tokens Dominate

Memecoins have now reached a market capitalization of approximately $130 billion, fueled by venture capital funding and political speculation, according to CoinGecko. Pump.fun alone generated about $250 million in trading volume in December, according to data from DefiLlama.

Additionally, Solana has become the leading blockchain for AI agents, commanding 56.48% of the market share, as per a January report by Bitget. These AI tokens are projected to see massive growth, with their total market capitalization potentially reaching $60 billion in 2025, according to Gracy Chen, CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Bitget. Solana has also emerged as a top player in total value locked (TVL), becoming the second-largest blockchain by TVL at $8.6 billion in Q4 2024. Ethereum, however, remains the leader with a TVL of around $57 billion, according to DefiLlama.

Conclusion:

Solana’s remarkable growth in application revenues during Q4 2024 highlights the growing influence of memecoins and AI tokens within its ecosystem. As the blockchain network continues to dominate in DeFi activity and AI-related innovations, its rise in TVL and market share further solidifies its position as a major player in the cryptocurrency space.
