XRP, the digital asset created by Ripple Labs, is currently trading at $0.50, reflecting a 6% decline since October 2, when the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a notice to appeal a federal court ruling that was favorable to Ripple. This ongoing legal dispute continues to influence XRP’s price fluctuations.

Declining Profitability Among Holders

Market data from analytics firm Santiment reveals a worrying trend: the percentage of XRP supply held in profit has plummeted to 70.4%, down from 90% in early October. The last time profitability levels dipped into this range was on July 12. A senior crypto derivatives analyst observes, “A significant drop in profitable supply frequently signals heightened selling pressure. Investors experiencing losses usually have a lower tolerance for additional declines.”

Technical Indicators Point to Further Declines

Technical indicators suggest mounting pressure on XRP’s price. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) has dropped to 38.77, indicating sustained selling activity. Furthermore, the breach of critical support at $0.52 raises the possibility of further declines.

The SEC’s appeal, submitted on October 10, challenges the court’s decision that programmatic sales of XRP to retail investors did not breach securities laws. In response, Ripple has announced plans for a cross-appeal, adding to the ongoing legal uncertainty surrounding the asset.

A crypto market strategist at a leading trading desk commented, “Regulatory uncertainty remains the primary influence on price movements.”. Fibonacci Retracement analysis suggests that the next support level is at $0.46, with market makers warning that failing to hold current levels could result in a retreat to $0.38, which matches the low seen on July 5. Such a scenario would signify a significant drawdown from recent highs.

Trading Volume and Future Prospects

Trading volumes reflect the sustained selling pressure across major exchanges. However, some market participants speculate that a technical bounce could occur if XRP reclaims the $0.52 level. This potential recovery hinges on overcoming significant resistance around $0.60, should buyers decide to return to the market.

The current decline highlights broader challenges faced by digital assets that are under regulatory scrutiny. XRP’s case has garnered close attention, as it could set a potential precedent for how other cryptocurrency tokens are treated under securities laws.

As the market awaits regulatory clarity, analysts emphasize that this clarity may be essential for a sustained price recovery for XRP and other digital assets navigating similar legal hurdles.

The ongoing legal issues surrounding XRP highlight the precarious position of digital assets in a regulatory landscape,” commented a seasoned market analyst.
