As December begins, Bitcoin (BTC) stands just below the coveted $100,000 mark, with traders eagerly awaiting the next move in its price action. November 2024 proved to be a monumental month for Bitcoin, recording its largest-ever monthly gains in US dollar terms. As the cryptocurrency continues to hover near $95,000, analysts are closely watching for signs of a breakout toward six figures.

A Record-Breaking November

Bitcoin’s performance in November was nothing short of historic. The cryptocurrency sealed its biggest-ever monthly gains, closing the month at $96,400. This rally marked a turning point for BTC, demonstrating its resilience after years of market turbulence. According to data from monitoring resource CoinGlass, the 37% upside during November doesn’t even come close to Bitcoin’s most successful months historically, but it sets the stage for potentially explosive growth ahead.

Cory Klippsten, CEO of Swan Bitcoin, remarked, “It’s a new ballgame,” reflecting the optimism surrounding Bitcoin’s long-term trajectory. While November’s gains are impressive, experts like Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments, predict even greater returns in the coming months. Edwards believes that Bitcoin’s price discovery phase is just beginning, with a breakout past $100,000 likely to spark significant retail-driven demand.

Bullish Sentiment and Market Stability

Despite Bitcoin’s proximity to its all-time highs, funding rates remain relatively steady, suggesting a lack of overheated market conditions. According to trader Jelle, funding rates across exchanges have been stable, which could pave the way for further upside. This market stability is crucial for Bitcoin’s ability to push past the $100,000 threshold without facing a significant pullback.

Analysts have also noted a “bull flag” formation, which signals a potential continuation of the bullish trend. Trader Rekt Capital highlighted that Bitcoin has successfully retested support around $91,000, showing a 7% rebound. A daily close above $97,450 could trigger additional upward movement toward $100,000, with key support levels identified at $95,000 and $90,000.

US Employment Data and Federal Reserve’s Key Decision

Bitcoin’s price trajectory in the coming weeks will also be influenced by broader macroeconomic factors. A crucial week of US employment data is set to begin on December 3, with reports on job openings, jobless claims, and unemployment numbers due ahead of the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision on December 18.

As of now, markets are anticipating a 0.25% rate cut, which could act as a catalyst for Bitcoin’s breakout. Material Indicators’ Keith Alan noted, “If a Bitcoin breakout doesn’t happen before the Dec 18th FOMC Meeting, a 25bps rate cut would likely be the catalyst that sends BTC past $100K.”

Golden Cross Signals Bullish Momentum

Onchain indicators are also signaling strong bullish momentum. The Spent Output Profit Ratio (SOPR) recently printed a “golden cross,” a rare event that often precedes sharp price rises in Bitcoin’s market cycle. CryptoQuant analyst Crypto Dan pointed out that such a cross typically leads to a strong rally within two months, often signaling the final phase of an upward cycle.

As Bitcoin continues to gain traction, the magnitude of the rise could become even more pronounced. The golden cross, along with the potential for new institutional inflows and retail-driven buying, could push Bitcoin to new all-time highs by the first quarter of 2025.

The Road Ahead

With Bitcoin on the verge of breaking $100,000, the coming weeks are set to be pivotal for the cryptocurrency. A favorable Federal Reserve decision, coupled with stable market conditions and bullish onchain signals, could propel Bitcoin to new heights, attracting further investor interest. As Bitcoin continues its journey towards six figures, the broader market will be watching closely for any signs of a breakout or potential correction.
