Bitcoin mining giant Marathon Digital Holdings (MARA) continues to make waves with its assertive Bitcoin acquisition strategy. Blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain reports that the company purchased 1,300 BTC, valued at about $130.66 million, within a span of seven hours.

This bold move comes during a period of market volatility, as Bitcoin prices struggle to reclaim the $100,000 threshold. However, Marathon’s latest acquisition signals confidence in Bitcoin’s long-term potential despite short-term fluctuations.

A Continuous Buying Spree

This purchase is not an isolated event for Marathon Digital. Just earlier this week, the company acquired 1,423 BTC worth around $139.5 million. These back-to-back acquisitions show Marathon’s unwavering commitment to increasing its Bitcoin holdings, reinforcing its belief in Bitcoin as a future-proof asset.

Marathon has been utilizing various strategies to fuel its buying spree. The company recently raised $850 million through a convertible note offering. Marathon plans to use these funds for additional Bitcoin purchases, as well as to manage some of its existing debt. This strategic approach mirrors the Bitcoin-buying strategy of MicroStrategy, another prominent Bitcoin investor.

Institutional and Whale Support for Bitcoin

Marathon is not alone in its aggressive Bitcoin buying. On-chain data shows that large investors, or “whales,” have been actively buying Bitcoin during recent price dips. In the past 24 hours, whales accumulated 20,000 BTC, worth $2 billion, after Bitcoin prices briefly fell to $96,000.

Institutional interest in Bitcoin remains robust as well. Spot Bitcoin ETFs are seeing a steady flow of investments, with BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) recently surpassing $50 billion in assets under management. This highlights the growing confidence and trust that big players have in Bitcoin’s future.

What’s Next for Bitcoin?

Bitcoin has been showing resilience in the market. Despite recent price dips, Bitcoin remains resilient, recovering from the $96,000 support level and trading around $99,776, showing a 1.17% increase in the last 24 hours.

Additionally, data from CoinGlass shows that BTC Futures Open Interest experienced a slight surge of 0.68% over 24 hours, reaching $61.61 billion. This indicates that Bitcoin’s rally could have more potential for growth, particularly with the increase in institutional investment and whale activity.

As Bitcoin continues to hold strong, the combined efforts of institutions like Marathon and Whales indicate that the leading cryptocurrency may have further upside potential despite short-term volatility.
