NEAR Protocol has unveiled the alpha version of its crosschain AI agent, the NEAR.AI Assistant, at the Redacted conference in Bangkok on October 10. This new tool lets users quickly launch memecoins and search for products, all while using fiat currency. Co-founder Illia Polusukhin introduced the assistant, demonstrating how blockchain and AI can work together seamlessly.

AI Meets Blockchain: Memecoin Creation in Seconds

The NEAR.AI Assistant combines AI and blockchain to simplify memecoin creation. Polusukhin showed how the AI generated a frog-themed memecoin, complete with a backstory, website, and logo. It then launched the coin on NEAR’s Pump.fun platform, showcasing how effortlessly AI can interact with decentralized systems.

“We aim for users to experience the potential of what’s possible and build upon it,” Polusukhin told Cointelegraph.. Although flight bookings aren’t live yet, he revealed a prototype exists, and users will soon be able to create new agents for the platform to add such features.

Near Intents: Enabling Crosschain Asset Swaps

A standout feature of the NEAR.AI Assistant is the Near Intents protocol, which enables crosschain asset swaps. This innovation allows users to exchange assets between different blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Arbitrum, with a simple transaction. Unlike traditional methods, Near Intents uses direct chain signatures, eliminating the need for intermediary assets or atomic swaps.

Alex Shevchenko, founder of Aurora Labs, explained, “Intents can connect any wallet to any chain, bringing DeFi to blockchains that lack smart contracts.” Shevchenko demonstrated this by swapping Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC) through a MetaMask wallet.

Expanding Web2 Integration: AI Agents and Automation

Looking ahead, the NEAR.AI Assistant will integrate more Web2 functionalities. This includes booking flights and ordering takeaway food, bridging Web3 capabilities with traditional services. Polusukhin stressed the platform’s open-source nature, enabling developers to create custom agents for various tasks.

The technology also fosters collaboration between AI agents. For example, one AI could ask another to open a Revolut account, with agents coordinating actions, resolving disputes, and handling payments. This AI-to-AI communication could transform how users interact with services in both Web2 and Web3.

The Future: Bridging AI, DeFi, and Web2

With its innovative approach to AI and blockchain integration, NEAR Protocol is shaping a future where these technologies work together to streamline tasks—from launching tokens to completing everyday activities. Kendall Cole from Proximity Labs noted, “This new use case for Bitcoin in DeFi is just the beginning.” As the AI ecosystem evolves, we can expect smarter, more decentralized interactions.

Conclusion

NEAR Protocol’s launch of the NEAR.AI Assistant marks a significant advancement in the integration of AI and blockchain technology.. As the platform evolves, it promises to bridge Web3 and Web2, offering developers and users a unique space to explore decentralized technology’s future.
